amit sengupta::In a world that is dominated by the selfish and the selfcentered, here is a man who cares little for himself and spends more time on others.
His good friends say he is a man removed at least 1500 years of age and that he essentially belongs to the 6th or 7th century when goodness was returned by goodness and when men had more friends than adversaries.
Yet, amit is a man with a difference.
But for the most part, he remains inimitable.
The sexagenarian is a volcano of talent, a lyricist par excellence and a performer without parallel.
His musical shows, invariably filled to capacity, have been unmatched in quality, management and public response.
Philanthropy is often considered the domain of the rich while for ordinary people like us, the problems of the world appear too large to afford the luxury.
He is also a teacher who parts with knowledge free for many and gives away most of his earnings to charity.
A growing number of young singers have had their talent tuned and staged by amit, in almost all cases, money has never been a consideration.
That he has no regular income matters little to him.
He depends on the modest fees that he gets from his students learning music.
They would also know that he is a man generous to a fault.
Music has a mellowing effect on people, which was how he transformed his life, having had inspiration from shailendranath bandopadhaya, ustad hilal ahmed khan and khitish chandra ghosh.
